• ineptitude – неумение, неспособность, неуместность
• high winds and waves wreaked havoc – сильные ветра и волны нанесли серьезный ущерб, разрушили
• provided a huge incentive (incentive – побудительная причина, стимул)
• Injured animals make for easy prey (prey – жертва)
• drop-leaf table – стол с откидной крышкой
• gut reaction – рефлексная реакця

• bickering over – пререкаться по поводу, препираться (как в моем посте об иве, кстати, ива не ”curly”, а “curling”)
• hit the nail on the head – hit the bull’s-eye – в самую точку!

• the other shoe is gonna drop – например, дети которые себя обычно ведут плохо, вдруг стали вести себя хорошо – и вопрос What the other shoe is gonna drop?
• extrinsic and intrinsic motive – внешний и внутрненний мотив
• to sap an inclination – sap – подрывать, истощать, inclination – влечение, наклонность, намерение
• to snap out of a funk – funk – хандра, snap out – выдернуть
• insatiable – ненасытный
• curtailed – урезанный, укороченный – например, had their sluggish apetites curtailed – поубавили свой апетит относительно личинок
• repercussions – отзвук, эхо, отражение, последствия, влияние
• sow (sowed, sown) – сеять (также и в переносном смысле)
• unfathomable – непостижимый, неизмеримый
• to mock up – сделать копию, например “In its proposals for the Olympic Park in London, the London Cycling Campaign has produced some very nice glossy looking computer mock-ups of their vision for this enormous new sports facility.”
• to kick into the long grass – замять конфликт, “похоронить” вопрос, заболтать проблему – Understandable as it may seem that ACTA has been kicked into the long gras.
